toothpick bridge

Today, I made a bridge out of toothpicks and marshmallows. This was a class experiment, so a lot of the boys were eating the marshmallows--even though they were stale! There was outrageous noise, but everyone seemed pretty happy in the end. Here's what you need:

stale marshmallows                                                                 toothpicks
uncooked spaghetti

There aren't any rules on this project. Just think about what you want your bridge to look like and how you are going to make it look like that, then just start building! To make your bridge stronger, do lots of crossbracing. Use the spaghetti for pieces that need to be longer.

Other Ideas
You could test your bridge's strength by putting each end of it on a chair and placing a little toy car on it to see if your bridge will support its weight. Then, you could challenge a friend to a strength contest and see which bridge lasts the longest! You could also paint your bridge, to make it more colorful. Remember, the choice is yours!
